The year of 2019 has been a productive year for the North Sea Commission. We have accomplished many achievements. Just to mention some of them, the NSC has:

  • drafted a 2030 strategy for the North Sea Region
  • arranged a successful climate conference in Marstrand with more than 250 participants
  • organised a seminar in Brussels with 50 participants on how transnational cooperation in the North Sea Region can contribute to overall climate goals
  • organised a youth conference in Sandnes with 50 participants from five countries and started to work on youth involvement
  • organised a transport seminar in Brussels with high-level representatives from the European Commission
  • developed our relationship with the Interreg North Sea Region programme
  • advocated a continued North Sea programme open for UK participation and with a content that supports our new strategy
  • drafted reports on alternative fuels in public transport and on climate adaptation
  • influenced the CPMR’s answer to the EC consultation on the revision of the TEN-T network
  • been represented by our President and Vice President as speakers at external conferences and seminars on the blue economy, maritime spatial planning, etc.
  • made the voice of North Sea regions heard in the CPMR (in the General Assembly, Political Bureau meetings, working groups, task forces and seminars)
  • continued our engagement with KIMO and re-started the relation with OSPAR
  • organised one Annual Business Meeting, four ExCom meetings and twelve thematic group meetings where our members have gained new insights, developed our policy and strengthened the North Sea network

We are looking forward to the new year 2020 and just to mention a few areas, we will work with the following:

  • adopt, launch and start working along the new NSR 2030 strategy
  • identify synergies with the policies of the new European Commission and strengthen our profile on the European arena
  • follow the negotiations on the future relationship between the EU/EEA and the UK and voice the concerns of our members when necessary
  • develop our organisation, work methods and communication to provide the highest possible added value to our members
  • bring in a youth perspective in our work
  • start using the new CPMR member intranet (launched early 2020) to make our documents more accessible to members

We wish to thank our member regions and partners for a good collaboration during 2019 and looking forward to the new year.
