North Sea Commission President Kerstin Brunnström and Vice-President Andreas Lervik met with the King of Sweden, HM King Carl XVI Gustaf last September.

Both representatives were invited to address the King and invited guests at the 100th anniversary of the Swedish branch of the Nordic Association (Föreningen Norden), an NGO promoting people-to-people exchange between the Nordic countries.

The meeting was held on the coast close to the Swedish-Norwegian border and had a focus on maritime cross-border cooperation, and in particular on the marine environment. Ms Brunnström and Mr Lervik addressed transnational cooperation in a North Sea context and briefed the King and the guests on the North Sea Commission’s ongoing work with a 2030 strategy aiming at a sustainable and productive North Sea and a connected, climate-neutral and smart North Sea Region. They also mentioned the North Sea Commission’s work on marine litter and on maritime spatial planning, as well as the role of the CPMR as a think tank and voice of the regions in the EU and beyond.
